Tea with Sinmei Cheung

Tea with Sinmei Cheung

Am I the only one who finds it hard to stay on top of ever-changing "health" and "wholefood" trends? First there was almond milk, then chia seeds, then quinoa (pronounced KEEN-WAH, duh!), açai berries and lately Matcha tea (pretty much a wonder drug).

Now I'm at least an aficionado in the last one after interviewing Matcha tea queen, Sinmei Cheung, for this month's New Farm Village News magazine. Her Brisbane tea shop, housed in Brisbane's only food book store Scrumptious Readshas garnered quite a following in a short time - and Sinmei herself is an interesting person (a car crash prompted her to pursue a career in tea)!

What I find truly intriguing about Sinmei though is how she's managed to retain her childlike enthusiasm, passion and self-confidence after pivoting careers, home-bases and lifestyles so many times. It was a lesson to me: our attitudes are our only constant in life, so we may as well make sure we've got a good one.

Sinemi also shared with me the recipe for her Matcha Tea Loaf (in the article). If you try it make sure you use a smaller sized loaf tin - mine didn't turn out so pretty.
