4 Wines Worth Drinking
Before this weekend I would have said my husband, Pete, and I were probably not the most spontaneous people - but on Thursday we made a snap decision to head to Rainbow Bay for the weekend (the home of the famous Snapper Rocks surf break) and it was absolutely spectacular.
The accommodation was reasonably priced because it's "winter" (but it was 25C and sunny). The town was relaxed, unfussy and, to us, felt like an exciting discovery because we'd never stayed down that part of the coast (our family ties usually lead us up to the Sunshine Coast).
And because we were in such a spectacular location we probably celebrated with a couple more wines than usual, which got me thinking, "Hey, I'm sure people would love to know about these drops, that is: cheaper bottles of wine that are delicious." (Pete has a knack for finding this particular variety!)
So here they are, from left to right what Petey popped this weekend:
- Pertaringa Over the Top Shiraz, 2014: It was everything you want from an Australian Shiraz: delicate in its gutsiness, with a peppery taste as well as sweet plums.
- Innocent Bystander Rosé 2015: Very drinkable, not too sweet but with a light and zingy note of strawberries. This is a favourite of ours.
- Mount Avoca Back Block Shiraz, 2014: This had a deep chocolate and caramel flavour. Probably my favourite of the weekend.
- Ulithorne DONA Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre, 2014: I do love a blend and this didn't disappoint. It was like drinking deep, red, alcoholic cherries.
Pete makes most his wine discoveries and purchases through VinoMofo but we found Cooly Liquor had a great selection too. We also tried this beer which was similar to a Stone & Wood Pacific Ale: mango-y and mellow. So what did you enjoy this weekend? What's your favourite wine discovery of late?
