How to Get a Man Salad
Yep. That's the title of a recipe in this cookbook I uncovered at an old book store last week, a recipe that was provided by a very 1980s-looking Susan Seaforth Hayes (I didn't know who she was until this quick Google search). And it turns out, thirty three years after the book was published, the daytime TV actor is alive and still married... Clearly the salad worked, as any would that calls for a cup of corn chips!
The Entertainer's Cookbook is so kitsch and intriguing to me, made up entirely of recipes provided by B-Grade Hollywood stars in 1983. Until I came across the book, I'd never really stopped to think about what "stars" cook, I assumed they mostly had private chefs (I do love Oprah's kitchen garden).
A modern version of this book would be a sad tome; filled with health obsessed, gluten averse, sugar-hating recipes... At least the Hollywood hunks today would know to do their shirt buttons up, unlike Mr Fabian here.
