Mother's Day Love

Mother's Day Love

It's a bit surreal when you see someone you know on television... weirder still when it's a family member... and weirder yet when it's you on the screen (after you ended a career in the industry two years ago).

On Mother's Day evening it was such a pleasure to watch this Nine News story honouring one of the Three Wise Women, my Granny Betty Carter. She is an inspiration because she refuses to let age slow her down. Granny climbs stairs with vigour because if she stops, what else will she give up? And she applies this rule to everything she does because she doesn't want to 'lose' the ability to cook, bake, garden, study, read and write (she's currently up to the 1960s in her memoirs).

It's for this reason and so many more I felt compelled to get my three grandmothers' recipes (and very condensed versions of their life stories) down on paper. Leslyn, Betty and Rhyle are deeply inspiring women in unique ways. Leslyn actually got me thinking about writing a book because she's been sharing her brilliant recipes with us (her grandchildren) via Google Drive for years. Seriously! Amazing stuff.

Actually I believe all members of our older generation have interesting stories to tell if you just take the time to sit down with them and extract them.

Who in your life could you take the time to talk to? What could you learn from them?
